Darius Simpson is a writer, educator, performer, disruptor, and skilled living room dancer from Akron, Ohio. He received his BA in Political Science from Eastern Michigan University. He is a candidate for his MFA in Creative Writing-Poetry from Mills College. His performances have been featured on platforms such as TEDx, Huffington Post, and Button Poetry. Darius was a recipient of the 2020 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship.
His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in POETRY Magazine, The Adroit Journal, American Poetry Review, Crab Creek Review, and many others. Currently, he lives in Oakland, CA where, as a Teaching Artist, he partners with organizations to facilitate writing and performance workshops throughout the Bay Area. Darius believes in the total liberation of all oppressed people by any means necessary.
