About this Speaker

Darius Simpson is a writer, educator, performer, disruptor, and skilled living room dancer from Akron, Ohio. He received his BA in Political Science from Eastern Michigan University. He is a candidate for his MFA in Creative Writing-Poetry from Mills College. His performances have been featured on platforms such as TEDx, Huffington Post, and Button Poetry. Darius was a recipient of the 2020 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship.

​His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in POETRY Magazine, The Adroit Journal, American Poetry Review, Crab Creek Review, and many others. Currently, he lives in Oakland, CA where, as a Teaching Artist, he partners with organizations to facilitate writing and performance workshops throughout the Bay Area. Darius believes in the total liberation of all oppressed people by any means necessary.
