About this Speaker
<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Samuel Getachew is an 18-year-old poet and writer from Oakland, California. He is the 2019 Oakland Youth Poet Laureate, the 2020 West Coast Youth Poet Laureate, and a 2020 Finalist for National Youth Poet Laureate. He is also a 3-time Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam Champion, a 2019, 2020, and 2021 YoungArts winner in spoken word as well as a 2021 YoungArts winner in creative nonfiction. His writing has been published in KQED, Teen Vogue, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and more. He will attend Yale University in the fall of 2021.</span>
